Great poem...we used to recite this poem everyday in our school days..during our compulsory prayer session.
Still gives me the shivers
This poem was part of my +2 curriculum in 1983-85. I still get my hairs raised when I read this after 20+ years. I remember my teacher reciting this in the class, with proper emphasis at the proper places. Nice to see a google-search could unite me with this poem.

I learned this poem in school when I was in the 5th or 6th standard - that is about 47 years ago - in the early 1960's. Much before 90% of today's internet users were even born! I have never forgotten it, and it comes up in my mind ever so often. It stirs up my emotions, my patriotism, my love for India. And I wonder - do today's youngsters feel about our country the way people of my generation do?

Because the present anthem reminds us the days of slavery and singing it we dishonour our freedom fighters.

They do madhusudan. my daughter wanted a Hindi poem to recite in her class activity (she is 13 yro, in class 8th). she got stuck with this one. her hindi is not so good, so i asked her to chose from some other poems with easier words but she wanted just this one. and when i told her the 'bhav' of the poem, she was overwhelmed. well...looking at her interest, finally i gave up and agreed to help her preparing it. right now, she is busy practicing the kavita path. need i say, I have been a fan of these lines as well as of Prasad, since my childhood. :)
